Forgot to add one more thing to "how to spot a fake MAC shadow."
MAC boxes have a very nice finish. If you scratch your fingernail across it, there will be no marks left; however, the fake boxes have an inferior finish and if scratched, a scratch will appear and remain on the box, thus an inferior finish. The fakers have not figured out how to accomplish the same finish on the MAC boxes.
All this sounds superficial and subtle, but that is how good the fake MAC products have come. When in doubt, buy retail or from someone you know and trust. Most sellers take great pains to make sure their items are authentic, but every now and then a good seller might not know because the fake items are so close now to the real deal.
Again, seasoned MAC users will know the difference as the proof is in the pudding.
