RARE MAC PIGMENTS

Hello everyone,

I have just received a list of the pigments in my MUA's inventory. They should arrive soon and I will have them listed by the weekend. Some of them are very rare and impossible to get, and many of them are pro colors coming directly from a MUA's collection (new & unused of course).

It is hard to believe we are coming up on Thanksgiving and "Black Friday." Just wanted to mention that the fragrances all have to be shipping parcel ground, so in order to receive them well in advance of the holidays, buy now!

NEW MAC ITEMS

Hi everyone,

I have finally received the new MAC items I mentioned weeks ago from a makeup artist in California who is no longer in the field. She has amassed MAC items over the years as an artist and now needs the cash.... so a friend and I have purchased several of her items. Many of them are rare, pro products and no longer available. I will continue to receive more products. Not everything is listed as of yet but am working hard to get it all up and running.

I have also listed MAC Viva Glam Liplass in Cyndi and Gaga, both limited edition items and some sold out. I am getting many new colors of MAC lipsticks next week.

My advice to shoppers: Now is the time to buy when stock is plentiful. As October and November nears, stock will be lower and prices will be higher -- supply and demand theory. Also, selection is plentiful now and will diminish as the holidays draw near. Also, wholesale items will not be as plentiful this holiday season due to the tight economy and cutbacks made by manufacturers.

Fake versus authentic MAC brushes (again)

Hi everyone,

I recently listed many MAC brushes on all of my sites and I continually get questions about authenticity. Now, it takes time to answer all these questions and I am going to now refer anyone who asks to this blog to get a more in-depth education about MAC brushes and how to determine authentic versus fake brushes.

I have combed the net to find MAC brushes for sale to see the differences between the sellers and listings. Often times, I see sellers on Amazon.com, Ioffer and Ebay selling counterfeit or so called "knock-offs." There are many out there, so I understand the skepticism and concern.

I have often times found sellers who sell fakes seem lack variety of products, are new members of the site they sell from and do not have a lot of feedback. They are in it to get in and out before they are either suspended or get too much negative feedback about the purported MAC items they sell. So if you find a seller with ONLY pigments, ONLY blush, ONLY eyeshadows and ONLY brushes, check them carefully and ask a lot of questions.

TOP 5 RULES FOR PURCHASING & RECOGNIZING AUTHENTIC MAC BRUSHES:

1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, buy anything from China or Hong Kong, where many counterfeit items are mass produced. Stay in the United States when purchasing anything high end. This is not only true of MAC but also true of Clinique, Nars, Estee Lauder and Lancome.

2. Know your seller, look at his/her feedback, check how long he/she has been a member, check out other items for sale and don't hesitate to ask questions. Most good sellers are more than happy to answer questions. If you ask and don't get an answer, stay away as the seller may have something to hide or will not admit counterfeit.

3. Know your product. Go to a MAC counter or department store and research the item you are purchasing. Know what they look like, smell like, feel like, etc. Most seasoned users of MAC and other high-end items know their items and repeatedly buy them for the simple reason they are happy with the product. You cannot fool an experienced user -- they will know for sure if the item is the real deal.

4. Everything MAC makes has a shade/color name and a bar code and item code printed on the box. MAC has recently changed their packaging to stay ahead of the counterfeiters. They now PRINT the color name/shade name on the top right of the box and PRINT the bar code and item code onto the box rather than use a peel-off bar code and round color sticker. Both old and new packaging will remain in stores until the items are sold out -- this may take years. When visiting the MAC counter, you will see both versions of packaging. If you see someone selling pigments with no name but merely numbers, THEY ARE FAKE. If you want the real deal, DO NOT BUY THESE.

5. Brushes: MAC brushes are high quality, made of the finest materials and stand out in performance and style from competitors. Not to say other brushes are inferior, but a real MAC brush will last you a lifetime if taken care of properly. What to look for in a MAC brush:

*Packaging: EVERY MAC brush comes in a plastic sleeve with a bar code printed onto the sleeve. Ask the seller if the brush comes with a sleeve and a bar code. If not, be suspicious.

*MAC brushes have black WOOD handles with brush numbers EMBOSSED onto the handle. When you run your fingernail over the number, it should not be slick or smooth, but you should feel a subtle bump when the finger is run over the number. Some numbers may rub off over time and use. Every authentic MAC brush has a number embossed onto the handle.

*MAC brushes are matte black and should never by shiny or grey or any other color, exception being if it is a SE brush (special edition), in which case MAC may use different colors such as "red" for the holidays. Just an example. SE brushes are not usually full sized brushes.

*The brush should smell like wood. If you smell plastic or something else, it probably is not the real deal. I find MAC brushes to have a very distinct smell of lacquer and wood.

*The bristles should NOT fall out when pulled or fanned over your hand/finger. They should be soft and feel luxurious. MAC brushes last a lifetime.

*MAC brushes are manufactured in various places, mostly USA, Japan and France. Once I saw a brush made in Spain. The countries are EMBOSSED near the end of the brush handle. On smaller brushes, look carefully and use a magnifying glass to see if the country is embossed onto the handle. If not, it could mean trouble.

*Brush sets? MAC does NOT make a brush set exception being holiday sets, which often times are travel sized. Nordstrom has also created exclusive sets of MAC brushes. MAC brushes NEVER come in a roll, exception being again if it is a holiday SE (special edition) version. If you find a brush roll with all of the MAC brushes or many MAC brushes, it is most certainly not the real deal. HOWEVER, there is a professional brush carrier that can be purchased at the professional level but you must have a MAC pro account in order to do this.

*Resale of MAC: MAC is owned by Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder dislikes resale of their items. If you are trying to confirm authenticity, NEVER tell a counter person or salesperson the item was purchased off the internet. DO NOT elaborate on where it was purchased. For the simple reason there are so many counterfeit items for sale on various sites, they may say it is not authentic when, in fact, it is. This goes of any product, not just brushes.

I have a huge network of wholesale providers I buy from repeatedly for the reason I trust them and know where they are getting items from. Some of them have awesome connections and are able to get exclusive deals on very high end name brands like MAC, Bliss (one of my faves) and Estee Lauder. One of my favorite wholesalers knows a rep who does shelf pulls from major department store due to old packaging or items having been on shelves for the maximum time. It does not mean they are old or expired. Large department stores like to change out product to stay current. Items that are pulled do not get thrown out but stored at a warehouse and purchased by wholesalers for resale. Sometimes the boxes show shelf wear or are slightly damaged from being transported many times. This is why things are being sold on Ebay, Amazon and other sites. Keep this in mind when buying something at 50% off or lower. Perfection often does not exist at the wholesale/resale level.

Something else I like to say and not in a sarcastic way but truly the only way you know if something is real is to buy at Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomies, or MAC. Don't expect a discount of any kind but you will have total reassurance the item is genuine. On the other hand, if you have purchased from a reputable seller and know his/her products, chances are they will provide genuinely awesome products at astoundingly low prices.

To sum up, this is a lot of information to digest and I am happy to share it in order to educate buyers to become informed. I hope you have gained some insight into how to recognize fakes from authentic items.

On a side note, I am working on my very own website and have hired someone to design one for me, so look for that before Christmas.

MAC brushes

Hello all,

I am expecting another lot of MAC brushes to arrive early this week and will hopefully have them listed on several sites soon thereafter. My wholesale source promises these will be the larger ones -- powder, face, etc. The larger ones tend to go quickly, so if you are interested, best to get them while you can. I have no idea which ones or how many of each size I will receive until they arrive. As always, they are authentic.

I have an awesome contact for all of my MAC items. She gets items no one else is able to, including these brushes.

How to know if MAC brushes are the real deal:
MAC brush handles are made of fine quality wood and should smell like wood. If they smell like plastic or something else, they probably are knockoffs.

The brush numbers should be embossed into the handle, never printed onto the handle.

MAC brushes should come with a plastic sleeve with a bar code on the sleeve. If the brush arrives without the sleeve or without a bar code, be cautious.

Experienced MAC users know the difference between the soft bristles and the fake brush bristles. I have heard many users say once a MAC brush user, always a MAC brush user as nothing else compares.

Always ask when in doubt. I often am asked "are your brushes authentic," and I sometimes grow tired of the question but buyers need to be reassured the items I sell are always authentic despite my 100% feedback.

Back from Hilton Head

Hello,

I am back from my one-week vacation -- way too short.

I have just listed many new MAC shadows in single and pro pan refills, in addition to three new Bliss products, Fat Girl Slim, Fat Girl Sleep and the new microwaveable Poetic Waxing Kit. For those of you who are not familiar with Bliss products, they are very high-end spa items used at the New York Spa "Bliss" where many celebs go to pamper themselves.

Hello everyone,

The long-awaited Urban Decay glitter eyeliners and shadows should be arriving today and I hope to have them sorted out and listed on all sites by tonight.

I do not know exactly when my lot of MAC brushes (always authentic) will be arriving, but I am hoping this week as well. The last lot I received from this same vendor sold like lightening. I cannot offer the same rock-bottom prices as the last lot as that was a dream price, but these will be below retail. I will, of course, price them as cheaply as I can and urge anyone wanting lower prices to purchase at either Bonanzle, Ecrater or Webstore. I can do this for the simple reason that the cost to sell at these sites is far lower than what Ebay charges me to do business with them. Helpful info re: authentic v. counterfeit MAC products March 6, 2010

Hi all,

Forgot to add one more thing to "how to spot a fake MAC shadow."

MAC boxes have a very nice finish. If you scratch your fingernail across it, there will be no marks left; however, the fake boxes have an inferior finish and if scratched, a scratch will appear and remain on the box, thus an inferior finish. The fakers have not figured out how to accomplish the same finish on the MAC boxes.

All this sounds superficial and subtle, but that is how good the fake MAC products have come. When in doubt, buy retail or from someone you know and trust. Most sellers take great pains to make sure their items are authentic, but every now and then a good seller might not know because the fake items are so close now to the real deal.

Again, seasoned MAC users will know the difference as the proof is in the pudding.

Hi everyone,

Hope you are enjoying the weekend. The weather here has finally hit the 40s, and it feels like spring!

Wanted to give another lesson about how to spot fake MAC shadows. Some things to look for:

The labels on the backside of the shadows should be printed in white lettering, not cream or eggshell or golden or yellowish.

The flap of the boxes should have 2 "nubs" where they tuck into the box. Now, all of the authentic shadows DO NOT have these nubs as this is fairly new packaging.

As mentioned in an earlier post, MAC has changed their packaging now. The former black stickers with white lettering are now replaced with white lettering printed directly on the right corner of the box. Also, the bar code stickers (white) are now replaced with bar codes printed directly onto the box bottom of the boxes. This is very new packaging and you will see both old and new packaging for some time to come as it will take a while for all of the older products to make their way through the marketplace.

Some of the newer fake items are so close to the authentic packaging, it is almost impossible to tell them apart, but an experienced, seasoned MAC user will know the difference in quality of the shadows and pigments as they are inferior to MAC's formula. Fake MAC colors also tend to be off a bit.

Buy from people you trust and have bought from before. If something is too good to be true, it is. Stay way from anything that is advertised as MAC but does not have a color name. Some fakes on Ebay and elsewhere are advertised with numbers only. MAC has names for every product they sell and code numbers printed at least on the product. Some of the special edition boxes do not have code numbers printed on the boxes.

Use common sense. Always ask questions. Check feedback.

Hello and happy weekend! I have ended my week on a very good, productive note.

I visited a MAC counter at Nordstrom today and took a look at all the new MAC items. They have changed their packaging (again) to print the shade/color on the top of the box rather than printing it on the circle stickers. I would imagine there will be a lot of "old packaging" shelf-pull MAC products hitting the wholesale maketplace due to new packaging, which is good for everyone. Now, just because it does not have the printed color on the top right of the box, does not mean it is counterfeit. The old packaged products will be around for sometime. Nodrstrom had both, old and new packaging.

Some ways to detect counterfeit MAC: Any item that does not have a matching code printed on the box AND the item, any item that does not have a color/shade listed on the label, any pigment that comes with a black lid, misspelled colors, colors that do not exist, items that do not exist, etc.

Recently, I looked at Ebay to find "Hello Kitty." I was astounded at how many counterfeit Hello Kitty items there were listed on that site. Now, because I am very familiar with the line (since discontinued as it came out last February 2009), I could detect easily which items were NOT released as Hello Kitty by MAC. These counterfeit/knockoffs are advertised as "Hello Kitty" but not necessarily a MAC product, so be careful. Do your research and homework before you buy, always buy from a trust seller with positive feedback across the board, check on seller's feedback as usually someone will discover a counterfeit item after receiving it and then leave negative feedback and when in doubt, go to a buyer whose feedback is flawless and as close to 100% as possible.

Also, it is always good to buy from someone who has lots of different MAC items listed, not just pigments or shadows or what is purportedly Dazzleglass. There is a significant amount of Dazzleglass on Ebay as well, that is only coded with "numbers" and no colors. These are fake items and sometimes even the sellers don't know it. A good rule of thumb, if it seems to good to be true, it usually is -- that is, the item is being sold for so little because it is not an authentic MAC product. A seasoned MAC user will know the difference between authentic and knockoff but a new user might not be aware of the authentic traits and labeling of the products.

New items listed: Eyes by Design Expert Brush Set (beautiful), formerly sold at HSN and now sold out, some new MAC Paintpots and NARS duo lipgloss in Giza/Boogie Nights, in very limited supply.
